Compassionate, Patient-Focused Care
Get To Know Dr. William Frei
Dr. Frei is an Idaho native and grew up in the Treasure Valley. His pursuit of a career in dentistry was born from an unfortunate boating accident resulting in the loss of his friend's front tooth. He witnessed his childhood dentist (and future mentor) repair not only his friend's smile, but also his confidence.
Dr. Frei attended Brigham Young University and went on to complete dental school at the Missouri School of Dentistry and Oral Health. While in dental school, he was able to provide care to the underserved communities in and around St. Louis. Upon graduation, he began his Army dental career, serving 4 years as a Captain. Dr. Frei completed a 1-year Advanced Education in General Dentistry residency program at Joint-base Lewis McChord, WA, learning from the top dental specialists both within the armed services and the civilian world.
Following his residency program, Dr. Frei and his family were assigned to Ft. Polk, Louisiana where they battled hurricanes, humidity and fire ants, but fell in love with crawfish, gumbo, and the wonderful southern people. After their time in the Army, they made the decision to return closer to family and settle here in Idaho's Treasure Valley.
When he’s not in the office, Dr. Frei enjoys spending time outside golfing, hiking, fishing, camping, and spending time with his wife and four children..
Whole Person Healthcare Artistically Delivered
Get To Know Dr. Stephen Thomas
Dr. Thomas grew up in Nampa, Idaho. His "before and after" experience with braces is what first drew him to dentistry. He wanted to help others smile with confidence and have a similar life changing experience. Having come from an artistic family and background, Dr. Thomas has always been interested in creative expression. Through his art and dental education, he was able to discover the artistic aspects of quality dental care, and he is passionate about sharing these with his patients.
Dr. Thomas graduated from Brigham Young University in 2013 with a degree in Exercise Science and Spanish. He then went on to complete dental school at the Arizona School of Dentistry and Oral Health in Mesa, AZ. Dr. Thomas graduated #2 in his class, excelling both academically and clinically. In addition to his dental school degree, he completed additional courses obtaining a certificate in Public Health, focusing on serving underserved communities. While attending dental school, he was able to travel to underserved areas and work in community health centers in Texas, Washington, Arizona, and Utah.
Upon the completion of dental school, Dr. Thomas began his military service as a Captain in the United States Army. He completed a 1-year Advanced Education of General Dentistry residency in Fort Sill, Oklahoma. This residency had a unique focus on cosmetics, orthodontics, and digital dentistry. He and his family were then stationed in Fort Polk, Louisiana, completing their 5 years of military service. Upon finishing their Army dental career, they returned to the Treasure Valley.
Dr. Thomas spends most of his time outside of the office with his wife and four children. He grew up an avid basketball and tennis player, and he continues to enjoy playing tennis and teaching his children how to play. Despite his love for tennis, Dr. Thomas will admit he's developing a new love for pickleball!

First Visit?
What to Expect
When you first walk through our doors, you will be greeted by our friendly team and immediately notice our comfortable environment. You’ll be invited to sit down and relax as you fill out any new patient forms prior to your appointment. Once those are complete and your hygienist is ready for you, we’ll invite you back into one of our operatories.
If you’re taking advantage of our new patient special, you’ll receive a cleaning, comprehensive exam, x-rays, and Dr. Frei or Dr. Thomas will sit down with you to discuss the results. If everything looks good, you’ll be able to schedule your next appointment in the front office.
If anything needs extra attention, your doctor will explain the results and take time addressing any further questions of concerns you might have.

Community Outreach
At Roots Dental, we believe our responsibility to provide quality care goes beyond our office. Supporting healthy communities is integral to supporting the health of our patients. That’s why we partner with The Blessing Bike, which provides access to affordable passenger bikes for families with loved ones experiencing age, health, or disability-related barriers. We donate a portion of the revenue from all new patient exams toward sponsoring a bike for someone in need. Give us a call today if you’d like to find out more about how we give back to our community!
